What is Yester Years?

Yester Years Productions is a non-profit student-lead program that bridges the inter-generational gap between seniors and teenagers through the performing arts. The program is free for young people between ages 10 and 18 to join, giving them a fun and unique way to get involved in their community.

Who does our program benefit?

Our program benefits our community. We contribute to our community by providing an opportunity for seniors and teens to connect with one another in a fun and creative way.

Yester Years benefits the seniors in the Lower mainland who are living in assisted living centers and senior homes by providing them with a connection to the younger generation and quality entertainment productions that are student lead.

Our program benefits the young people involved. Every hour of practice, production and performance that our students are a part of, counts as volunteer experience which is great for a variety of things. Yester Years also gives kids the chance to get out into their community and do something good. It is a great opportunity for kids who would like to volunteer and contribute to their community, but to do so in a fun and light-hearted way.

What is our program and what does it consist of?

Yester Years Productions is broken down into 2 components: The Performance Arts, such as dancing, singing, acting, musical performance, drama and acting. And then The Film Making component, such as directing, producing, editing, acting, writing, editing, makeup design and prop design.

The Performance Arts component welcomes students like to/ want to express themselves through performance. In this component, the students co-create entertainment productions to be performed at senior care homes in the Lower Mainland. Students of any skill level are welcome to participate in this component of the program however they wish. Students gain volunteer experience in this component by putting in hours of practice and performance time to be performed for the seniors!

The Film Making component of the program welcomes students who express interest in film making, acting and post production. Once again, there is no skill level required to be a part of this component. Students in the film making part of the program gain their volunteer hours and experience by working on small sets in cool locations with other students to produce films that will be worked into the production alongside the performing arts students to be presented for the seniors.
